Your Overstreet home will place you and your family into a diverse environment. There are over 100 languages spoken in the Naperville district 204 homes. Last year the minority population in the schools increased to 30 percent. District 204 is interested in teaching students of all ethnicities to live with inspiration, character and success.
One area where students are given the opportunity to succeed is in the athletic programs at Naperville schools. District 204 can be accredited to developing young award-winning athletes. Several state championships were won by district 204 athletes. These include:
- State champion girls’ soccer team
- State volleyball champions in the Chicago Area Alternative Education League
- State championship Special Olympics Division 13 basketball team and Juior Olympics Division 1 basketball team
- State champions in 400-meter dash
- State champion in 300-meter hurdles
- State champion in 100-meter freestyle
But above all else, the academic achievements are among district 204’s greatest accomplishments. Of the schools in Illinois, District 204 continues to produce some of the state’s most proficient students. Students in Naperville 204 persistently score significantly higher on tests, such as the ISATs and ACTs, compared to students across the state. In 2004-2005, the ISAT and PSAE results show that the percentage of district 204 students that met or exceeded the Illinois Learning Standards was higher than the percentage of all students in Illinois that met or exceeded the standards. (Scores were shown in Math, Science and Reading for grades 3, 5, 8 and 11).
It is important to us that you, as a new home owner, are satisfied with the construction of your new home and with all other aspects of living in a new community. Preparing your children to succeed begins with enrolling them into a school district with high standards. District 204 has been searching for the best way to educate your children in the last few years. According to the 2004-2005 Report of Success, this is their plan:
“The Literacy Leadership Council spent the past four years researching best practices and finding ways to address the needs of the individual student. A new literacy curriculum was implemented and training began for teachers at every grade level. The new reading program not only aligns to current state standards, but it addresses the individual needs of students. A student’s reading level does not always match his or her grade level (i.e., a third grader may be reading at a fifth-grade level). The new program is tailored to the individual, providing access to a range of literature and the opportunity for continued growth.”
Major school academic accomplishments include:
- Neuqua Valley High School was recognized for having the top music education program in the country by Grammy Foundation
- 43 gold medals were awarded to Naperville students at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science State Science Fair
- In the Naperville Women’s Club Young Adult Art Contest a student was awarded 1st place
- In the Columbia College High School Video Festival a 1st place was awarded to a Naperville student
- At the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s state championship there were 13 gold medal winners
- A student achieved a perfect ACT score
- Granger Middle School’s Knowledge Master team placed first in the state at the Knowledge Master Open academic competition
- National Merit Scholarship recipient
This is just a taste of some of the things children were able to accomplish through the district 204 programs. We look forward to providing your family with not only a beautiful home, but also a great opportunity to be a part of one of the most coveted school districts in the state!
