Creating Your Backyard Oasis

May 11, 2020

It’s really important to get as much Vitamin D as possible, especially now when most of us are spending too much time inside. We suggest spending some more time in your backyard. The CDC recommends going outside to get fresh air and what better place to do so than right out your back door. It can be your own little oasis for you to wind down and relax during these tough times. Take advantage of this nice weather by decorating your outdoor space.

Furniture
First, you need to have some comfy furniture! We love this one from Wayfair. This set comes with weather-resistant comfy cushions that make cleaning them a breeze! It’s perfect to work from home, read a book, or sunbathe on. Grab a glass of iced tea and soak in the spring weather. If you want a little shade from the sun, grab this umbrella for those hot days. Want to go a little further? Invest in an outdoor dining set like this one to have your morning coffee, lunch and even dinner. You’ll want to have every meal outside.

Lights
Spend some time outside at night! Light your backyard with some string lights. Not only are these aesthetically pleasing, they are an inexpensive way to add light in a large area. If you’re looking for something more unique, these torches are a great touch. Just make sure to blow them out when you are about to go inside.

Games
If you have kids that are restless from homeschooling, give them a break with backyard games. It’s a great way to get some energy out and have fun. We love games like corn hole and giant jenga to get the party at home started. Want something for the adults? Check out this outdoor chess set to make your backyard feel a little bit more sophisticated. Don’t know how to play? Enjoy this how-to book!

Fireplace
Roast marshmallows over your own fireplace! Relax and unwind with s’ mores and some hot chocolate at dusk. Get any fireplace that fits your style! We love this stone propane fire pit for easy upkeep. If you want a more rustic feel, this wood burning fire pit won’t break the bank and is easy to put together!

Plants
Add some potted plants to give your backyard a more lush look. We recommend starting with something easy like these flower bulbs. They require minimal watering and a lot of sunlight. You can also upgrade your cooking by growing fresh herbs! Plant some basil, rosemary, and mint and just go outside and pick some whenever you want to add a little freshness to your cuisine.

Water Fountain
The first thing we think when we say oasis is water. There is no need to spend a lot of money on a giant pool in your backyard to add some calm. All you have to do is add a water fountain! When you hear the trickling of the water, you’ll instantly feel relaxed.

We know this is a stressful time for all of us. Take that stress away by following these tips and tricks to make your backyard an oasis to escape to. When all of this is over, you will have an upgraded backyard that is perfect for small get-togethers. At Overstreet, we want all of our homeowners to feel as relaxed as possible especially during Covid-19. For more tips on your home, check out our other blogs.
