Spreading Holiday Cheer in the Chicago Suburbs

Dec 2, 2019

The holiday season is here! It’s time to spread love to your family, friends, and people in need. Get out of your Overstreet home and start giving back. We encourage you to volunteer at your local nonprofits to help people during this time of year. From soup kitchens to donating clothes, you can help support your community. We’re breaking down our top organizations in Chicago to give back during the holidays.

Lincoln Park Community Services

Lincoln Park has changed from a regular homeless shelter where people can get food and have a place to stay to a comprehensive social service agency. This organization is able to help over 500 people each year and end the cycle of homelessness. You can get involved by teaching a class or activity, preparing and serving a hot meal, and so much more. They offer volunteer services 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Anyone can help! Lincoln Park also asks for in-kind donations! They have an Amazon Wish-List so you can send them just what they need.

Cornerstone Community Outreach

Cornerstone provides home and shelter for families and individuals in need. Donate to give people a second chance of living the life they deserve. Your donation will directly impact people in need by giving them food and housing. Can’t afford to donate much? It only costs $1.50 to provide a nutritious meal to the homeless. You can also volunteer. They have plenty of opportunities to support the community by working on special events, serving meals, and distributing groceries. If you want to volunteer past the holidays and work up a sweat, join Team CCO. Be a part of their team to help bring communities and people together long term. They even run marathons to help get more donations.

Chicago HOPES for Kids

Chicago HOPES for Kids is an educational nonprofit that helps educate kids in homeless shelters. They make it their mission to help encourage kids to succeed, despite the challenges of being homeless. Volunteer and make an impact in a child’s life. You can be a literacy mentor, site coordinator, and so much more. Join their monthly giving program to start the new year with a fresh start in helping your community. By giving monthly, you are helping to sustain their program for the kids. No child deserves to not get an education, help them this season and get them the love and support they deserve.

Bridge to Success

Bridge to Success helps bring a professional wardrobe to individuals with little to low income. Thanks to this organization, individuals are able to dress for interviews that require high-end dress that the interviewee might not have. Get your closet 2020 ready and donate your old professional clothing to Bridge to Success. Not only are you starting fresh with your wardrobe, but you are giving people the chance to be successful at a job interview with work-appropriate clothing. If you don’t have any clothes to give away, they have a wish list to donate to and also need financial support. Click here to learn more.

PAWS Chicago

Pets need a little love this holiday season too. Instead of donating dollars, donate supplies for their shelters that their pets need! In-kind donations are sometimes the most beneficial when it comes to donations. From medications to food items, there are plenty of things to donate for the animals. Make sure to check their list for what the animals need
