Celebrate Thanksgiving in the Chicago Suburbs

Oct 30, 2019

We can’t believe it either…Thanksgiving is almost here. It’s time to start those holiday traditions with your family. We know the holidays can get overwhelming so now is the time to get planning. We’re listing ways to get you prepped and ready to go for the holidays. No one likes to rush through the festivities, so start early and get in the holiday spirit.

Chicago Thanksgiving Parade

Balloons, marching bands, floats, oh my! Make this Chicago holiday staple a new tradition! Starting at 8am on Thanksgiving morning, State Street in downtown Chicago will be full of bright colors, floats, and Christmas cheer. Get there early with your family to beat the traffic and the crowds. Don’t forget to bundle up, bring some snacks, get some coffee, because it’s going to be a long and exciting morning. You don’t want to get hungry and get distracted from the festivities! Crowds aren’t your thing? No problem! Watch it in the comfort of your Overstreet home by tuning into WGN 9 Chicago.

Volunteer or donate to these local nonprofits to get in the giving spirit.

Food For Friends

Join in their motto and “connect and give hope.” Food is the center of Thanksgiving, and not everyone has access to it. Take action this season and help prepare meal box giveaways, Thanksgiving dinner, community dinner, and so much more. With so much to choose from, anyone can help a person in need.

Chicago Basket Brigade

You can feed a family of 5 by giving them Thanksgiving Dinner that only costs $30. Help support the thousands of families in need this Thanksgiving and help give them what everyone deserves, a meal. This is one of the most popular food drives in Chicago and it shows.

Turkey Trot: Chicago 5k

Join many other families and runners on November 28th for the 42nd Annual Invisalign Turkey Trot in Chicago. All ages and paces welcome to join in on the fun. It takes place in Lincoln Park along the shores of Lake Michigan. Make sure to register now since fees are only $40 because come November they go up to $50. Did we mention you get awesome merchandise with your ticket like:

  • Long sleeve race shirt
  • Finisher medal
  • Complimentary beer
  • Post race food and beverages
  • Access to turkey day tailgate

Visit pumpkin patches and fill your Thanksgiving table with local produce.
